The Joint Space Weather Summer Camp (JSWSC) is an opportunity to learn about space physics in the context of meeting a very practical need -- to understand the influence of the sun on the space and upper atmosphere of the earth and its related impact on the technological systems and needs of modern society.
This program involves over twenty students from Alabama, Northern Germany, South Africa, and Italy that participate in a multiple-week series of lectures, hands-on projects, and excursions as they learn both the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of Space Weather and solar and space physics. Alabama students get a unique opportunity to travel to Germany, and during the camp, students will be enrolled (at no cost) in a summer course at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
JSWSC consists of three parts: (a) on June 29 participants go through orientation in Huntsville, Alabama and depart for Germany on June 30, (b) during July 1 - July 13 the camp takes place in Northern Germany, and (c) during July 14 - July 28 camp participants come back to Huntsville, Alabama.
Partner institutions in this program are Alabama A&M University, Alabama State University, Auburn University, CFDRC, Oakwood University, Tuskegee University, University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of South Alabama, and University of Alabama in Huntsville.
